Why Study Secondary History Education at TFC?

The online Secondary History Education major equips future servant leaders with knowledge of the diverse learners and content they will teach, skills in planning instruction, assessing, and managing, as well as character reflecting appropriate interaction with the school community, life-long learning, and a calling as a Christian servant leader with a Biblical worldview for kingdom service. The Professional Teaching Objectives for this major is based on the TAPS standards. The online Secondary History Education program leads to certification in grades 6 through 12.

Because we believe secondary education teaching is a calling, the Teacher Education Department seeks to cultivate a uniquely Christian online learning community through coursework and faculty support of candidates in their pursuit of truth with godly character for service in public, private and international schools teaching at the secondary level.

The academic rigor of the Secondary History Education degree has certainly set me on the path of career preparedness, and I have valued this experience greatly. The intentionality on behalf of both my Education and History professors has been the most surprising, helpful, and impactful aspect of my academic career. The communal atmosphere of TFC is just as evident in the classroom as it is in the campus community. This allows for different perspectives to be heard in a space that is chiefly focused on holistically loving one’s neighbor. Throughout some of my favorite Education and History courses, one thing has continually stuck out to me: my department is not solely focused on preparing future teachers and historians, rather, it is focused on preparing Christian teachers and historians who are excellent in their craft for the sake of Christ.
