Program Overview

Why Study Secondary History Education at TFC?

The Secondary History Education major equips future servant leaders with knowledge of the diverse learners and content they will teach, skills in planning instruction, assessing, and managing, as well as character reflecting appropriate interaction with the school community, life-long learning, and a calling as a Christian servant leader with a Biblical worldview for kingdom service. The Professional Teaching Objectives for this major is based on the TAPS standards. The Secondary History Education program leads to certification in grades 6 through 12.

Teacher Education majors in their senior year have the opportunity to complete a one-year, paid student teaching internship with Stephens County School District. In this program, students are the teacher of record and have their own class/set of students. Because we believe secondary education teaching is a calling, the Teacher Education Department seeks to cultivate a uniquely Christian learning community through coursework with in-field experiences, a yearlong clinical practice, and faculty support of candidates in their pursuit of truth with godly character for service in public, private and international schools teaching at the secondary level.

Testimonial

Using one word to describe my experience in the Secondary History Program would be growth; growth socially, academically, and spiritually. My favorite part of being at TFC has been connecting with the professors, who truly care for their students and do everything in their power to advise, encourage, teach, and support their students. Through leading by example, they have shown me how I can one day become a nurturing and caring teacher myself. One of the most precious moments in class occurred when Dr. Glover had an impromptu Bible study prayer time with the seniors. We read together and shared our struggles and successes, both in our placements and personal lives. The sweetest part followed, when we prayed for one another. The presence of God was truly felt tangibly. These moments and many more have made my experience at TFC sweet and filled with the joy and love of Christ.
