Student Achievement Goals

Student achievement in both residential and online programs at Toccoa Falls College is evaluated utilizing a variety of measures.
Those most meaningful to the public are enumerated and disclosed on this web page.

Retention Rates
Undergraduate retention rates are determined by comparing the number of students in a given freshman cohort who enroll for the fall semester of the following year. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the retention rate for all private not-for-profit, 4-year or above institutions in 2023 was 81.8% and 76.5% for Georgia institutions. The benchmark TFC has set for retention is 65%.
Graduation Rates
Graduation rate is typically reported as the percentage of students graduating within 150% of normal time (i.e., six years). According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the national graduation rate for bachelor’s degree-seeking cohort of 4-year institutions is 64.5%. The aggregate graduation rate of TFC’s six closest peer institutions is 37.7 for 2023. The benchmark TFC has established for graduation rate of its bachelor’s cohort is 50%.
IPEDS 8-Year Outcomes
According to the NCES website, the percent of undergraduate degree/certificate seeking entering students for the 2015-2016 cohort who completed an award within 8 years at degree-granting postsecondary institutions was 46.1%. The aggregate percent of undergraduate degree/certificate seeking entering students for the Toccoa Falls College IPEDS comparison group (includes 6 institutions) was 43% for the 2015-2016 cohort. The benchmark TFC has established for its 8-year Outcome Measures award rate is 50%.
Course Proficiency Rate
Course Proficiency Rates are calculated by comparing the total number of grades issued in a given semester with the total WP (withdrew passing), WF (withdrew failing), D, and F (failure) grades issued. Toccoa Falls College has set a benchmark of 80% for course proficiency (those completing the term with at least a grade of “C”).
Teacher Education State Licensing Examinations
The majors offered by the Teacher Education Department culminate in a state licensure exam. All Teacher Education Program Completers are required to take the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). The United States Department of Education’s Title II Higher Education Act uses this assessment in its annual report of pass rates for all teacher preparation programs in order to determine program effectiveness. Currently, an 80% pass rate is required for determining the effectiveness of each program offered.
Nursing National Licensing Examination (NCLEX)
In order to practice as a licensed registered nurse, graduates of the Fetterman School of Nursing (FSON) must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). The FSON pass rate is established based on requirements of both the Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) and the institution’s accreditor Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The GBON requires a passage rate for all first-time writers that meets the program’s accrediting (CCNE) requirements over the four (4) most recent calendar years. The CCNE requires a benchmark of 80%. Toccoa Falls College has set a benchmark of 90% for the NCLEX first-time pass rate for all nursing graduates within the calendar year.
National Marriage and Family Therapy Exam
In order to practice as a licensed marriage and family therapist, graduates of the MAMFT program must pass the National Marriage and Family Therapy Exam. The Council on Accreditation of Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) requires a licensure exam pass rate for master’s programs at a minimum of 70% for each cohort. Toccoa Falls College has set a benchmark that 80% of MAMFT students will pass the National Marriage and Family Therapy Exam within 2 years of graduation from the program.
