Man receiving award

Dr. Mark Murphree has been a key part of the English program and the Humanities department for 22 years. Since 2004, Dr. Murphree has served the college and students of TFC with dedication and has played a significant role in the development of the Humanities Department and our students’ intellectual and spiritual lives.  Dr. Murphree brings a rich, diverse background that strengthens his impact on the TFC community.  He holds a Master of Arts in English from the University of Georgia and a Master of Divinity from Columbia International University.  And most recently, he completed a PhD in Theology from Evangel University. His background in both English and Theology not only qualifies him to teach across multiple disciplines, but, more importantly, allows him to teach his literature and writing courses from a foundation deeply rooted in biblical theology and Christian thought.

He has brought his enthusiastic instructional style to English Composition, Creative Writing, Long Fiction, and Literature Survey courses.  He has also significantly contributed to the diversity of the English offerings by teaching courses on the Arthurian Cycle and C.S. Lewis. He has also taught Church History, American Church History, and Theology of Worship and Prayer.

Dr. Murphree’s book “No Remedy but Continual Prayer,” an investigation of John Wesley’s theology and the power of prayer, was published by Wipf and Stock Publishers in 2025.

Join TFC in congratulating Dr. Mark Murphree on his many accomplishments and his dedication to students throughout the years.
