Toccoa Falls College is pleased to announce the selection of its two newest Board of Trustee members, Senator John Wilkinson and Dr. Mark Herndon.

Senator John Wilkinson, a Republican from Toccoa, currently serves the Georgia General Assembly as the state Senator from the 50th District. As the former Executive Secretary of Georgia’s FFA, John worked 30 years preparing young leaders to grow jobs in Georgia. John’s primary goal while serving is to promote legislation that creates a business friendly environment to bring good jobs to our communities.

Senator Wilkinson learned the value of education from his father, Warren Wilkinson, who was principal at South Habersham High School for 15-years and Superintendent of Stephens County Schools for 12-years. Senator Wilkinson holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Georgia and is committed to equipping our children with a world class education. Through his leadership at FFA, Senator Wilkinson has demonstrated a passion for using education to develop Georgia’s future leaders.

Dr. Mark Herndon is a native of Greenville, South Carolina but currently resides in Toccoa, Georgia where he practices general surgery.  Before going into the medical field, Herndon was an officer in the USAF, serving as a crew member aboard B-52H bombers. He credits his father-in-law for inspiring him to go to medical school.

He has three teenage sons, the oldest entering college this fall. In his free time, Dr. Herndon enjoys working in his yard, outdoor activities, playing drums, and serving in his church. Some of TFC’s students have come to know Dr. Herndon as a guest lecturer in the School of Nursing. He has also participated in mock interviews for students wishing to apply for graduate programs. Teaching is definitely a passion of his whether it be “on the wards” of the hospital, in the college classroom, or in his church.

Both Wilkinson and Herndon will begin their time as Board Members in October 2018.
